Speech Therapy for Articulation & Pronunciation in Adults

Clearer Speech. Stronger Expression. Increased Confidence.

At Thrive Therapy, our registered Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work with adults experiencing articulation and pronunciation difficulties—whether stemming from neurological conditions, developmental differences, accents, or other factors. We’re dedicated to helping you communicate with greater clarity, accuracy, and ease.

Our approach focuses not only on how individual sounds are produced (articulation), but also on how words are spoken and understood in everyday communication (pronunciation), including clarity, sound patterns, and overall intelligibility.

What Is Articulation for Adults?

Articulation and pronunciation both play an important role in how clearly we communicate.

Articulation refers to how speech sounds are physically produced using the coordinated movements of the lips, tongue, jaw, and voice.

Pronunciation refers to how words are spoken overall, including correct sound production, clarity, and the way sounds are combined in everyday speech.

When one or more sounds are mispronounced, distorted, substituted, or omitted, it can make speech difficult to understand.

Adults with articulation or pronunciation challenges may:

  • Substitute sounds (e.g., “wabbit” instead of “rabbit”)
  • Omit certain sounds or syllables
  • Distort sounds or repeat unfamiliar speech patterns
  • Mispronunciation of certain consonants (like “s,” “r,” “l,” or “th”)
  • Difficulty being understood by others such as colleagues, friends, or strangers

These difficulties can lower confidence, impact professional and personal communication, and increase social stress. Articulation issues in adults benefit from targeted support

Who Might Benefit from Articulation & Pronunciation Support?

Articulation and pronunciation challenges can arise in adulthood for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease)
  • Developmental speech differences that have persisted into adulthood
  • Oral-motor changes following dental procedures, surgeries, or oral injuries
  • Cognitive or motor coordination differences affecting speech clarity and consistency

Adults may notice difficulty producing certain sounds (articulation) or challenges with how words are spoken and understood in everyday communication (pronunciation), including clarity, sound patterns, and overall intelligibility.

Our adult speech therapy services at Thrive Therapy are designed to address these concerns within a supportive, evidence-based framework—helping you communicate more clearly and confidently in daily life.

Common Goals We Address

  • Improving clarity and accuracy of specific speech sounds (e.g., “s,” “r,” “th”)
  • Enhancing overall pronunciation, including word clarity and sound patterns
  • Reducing speech slurring, distortions, or inconsistent sound production
  • Communicating more clearly and effectively in workplace and social settings
  • Increasing confidence in speaking across a variety of situations
  • Developing strategies for self-monitoring, self-correction, and maintaining progress over time
