Functional Capacity Evaluations

At Thrive Therapy, we understand that the road to recovery or workplace reintegration can be challenging, especially after an injury, illness, or medical condition. Our Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) provide a comprehensive assessment to help determine your physical abilities and limitations, ensuring that you receive the appropriate care, support, and guidance for your recovery or return to work.

What is a Functional Capacity Evaluation?

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a series of standardized tests and assessments used to evaluate an individual’s physical capabilities and limitations. The purpose of an FCE is to measure an individual’s ability to perform various tasks, such as lifting, walking, sitting, standing, and carrying out activities that are relevant to their daily life or work duties. The results of an FCE help healthcare providers, employers, and insurance companies make informed decisions about an individual’s fitness for work, rehabilitation needs, and any necessary accommodations.

Who Might Need a Functional Capacity Evaluation?

Functional Capacity Evaluations are valuable in a variety of situations, including:

  • Post-Injury Rehabilitation: FCEs are essential for evaluating the progress of an individual’s recovery after an injury, providing insights into their physical abilities and limitations.
  • Return-to-Work Assessments: FCEs help determine if a person is physically capable of returning to work after an injury or illness, and whether accommodations or modifications are needed to ensure a safe transition back to the workforce.
  • Disability Assessments: FCEs are often used in disability claims to assess an individual’s capacity to work or perform everyday activities, providing a clear picture of their functional limitations.
  • Workplace Safety and Ergonomic Needs: Employers use FCEs to assess whether workers are physically capable of performing specific job tasks and to identify the need for ergonomic adjustments to prevent further injury.
