LEGO® Therapy in Halifax | Thrive Therapy

Build Social Skills Through Play-Based Therapy

At Thrive Therapy, we offer LEGO® Therapy—a structured, evidence-based group program designed for children aged 5 to 12. This innovative approach uses collaborative LEGO® building to enhance social communication, emotional regulation, and teamwork in a fun and supportive environment

What is LEGO® Therapy:

LEGO® Therapy is a play-based intervention for children that supports the development of:

  • Social interaction and communication skills
  • Fine motor coordination and creativity
  • Problem-solving and perseverance
  • Emotional regulation and teamwork

Each session involves small groups of 3–4 children working together to build a shared LEGO® project. Participants rotate through specific roles:

  • Engineer: Reads and describes the instructions
  • Supplier: Finds and delivers the necessary bricks
  • Builder: Assembles the model based on guidance

This collaborative model encourages turn-taking, active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution, fostering essential social skills in a naturalistic setting.

Program Details:

  • Age Range: 5–12 years
  • Group Size: 3–4 children per group
  • Duration: 6-week sessions
  • Schedule: After school or Saturday mornings
  • Location: Thrive Therapy, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Children are grouped by age and developmental level to ensure a supportive and engaging experience.

Who Can Benefit from LEGO® Therapy?

Our LEGO® Therapy program is ideal for children who:

  • Experience challenges with emotional regulation (e.g., frustration, anxiety)
  • Have difficulty initiating or maintaining peer relationships
  • Need support with turn-taking, sharing, or compromising
  • Are developing confidence in group communication
  • Have mild developmental delays, fine motor challenges, or social communication differences.

We welcome neurodivergent children, including those with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or language delays, in a neuroaffirming and inclusive environment!

Insurance & Billing

LEGO® Therapy sessions may be billed under Occupational Therapy or Speech-Language Pathology services, depending on the therapist facilitating the group. This allows for potential coverage through extended health benefits.
